Marvel Proxies: Scarlet Witch and Warmachine

Two iconic characters from the Avengers; one got a leaked card but no model, the other (Warmachine) had neither, but a fan created card exists on the custom facebook group that looks usable and balanced enough:

This movie version of Scarlet Witch is Jinx from Hasslefree Miniatures modern adventurers series, she is much smaller than a regular 35mm Knight model but she can work as a teenager easy enough.

Warmachine is based off an Infinity Haqquislam Azra'il model with a Hasslefree mini gun attached to the shoulder. The head is from a spare Iron Patriot i have from a dark avengers set i picked up for conversion purposes.

Age of Sigmar: Skull Cannon and Herald

First of several planned Skull Cannons for my growing legion, and a Bloodmaster Herald that comes with the kit but only gets used in the Blood Throne version.







Skull Cannons are normally a bit crap, but there are two battalions that really help them out, and im building towards one of those hehe.... Shooting in the hero phase is a really good buff!

Knight Models: Finally painting some Marvel!

As on saturday, i managed to paint these two Marvel minis in between drying coats on my next ten Bloodreavers:

Ant Man isn't the best, he is a conversion from a spare cyclops and a spare Star Lord head i had planned, unfortunately the scale isn't quite right with the head being a touch too small... one day i will make another with Reverse Flash's body as that looks a better fit.

Daken is Wolverine's son, and so simply painting the existing Wolverine model in the apporopriate scheme was an easy fix haha.

Age of Sigmar: Khorne Bloodreavers

My first unit of 10 Bloodreavers are now complete:






These are the chaff of Khornes forces, 70pts for 10 models is a bargain for what they can do! They are more effective in bigger units of 20/30, but these minimum sized units are great for filling out the battleline slots and provide a cheap source of blood tithe when they die haha, and die they will!

I really enjoy painting the iconic superhero models now, they are up there with Wasteman and Guildball as my favourite lines i reckon!

I have my big Marvel Universe project to start after i have painted up enough Khorne to use at some tournaments... i cant wait!

Guildball: Alchemists Reinforcements

The last commission before the return to the Blood God hehe, a couple of players for the Alchemist team project i've already worked on:

As before, my client is doing the bases himself so the match his existing team. Also, Crucible is the first Albino i've painted so getting the skin and hair to be pale but distinct with my style was hard but there is a subtle difference that the camera doesn't pick up so well.

The Drowned Earth: The countdown has begun!

The Drowned Earth has just dipped into the last 48hrs remaining! No the fun really starts to begin hehe:




Plenty of stretch goals have been unlocked so far, including a free model for all starter pack and above backers and a dice set for two starters and above.


The big news though is that Master Builder Pledge, yes it costs 200 pounds but as it stands that gives you a saving of 98.95 rrp and most importantly it saves you roughly 29 pounds off all pledgeable costs.

The latest stretch goal of a cavalry mounted leader for The Firm boss Kaneda on Giant Mantis is only a few hundred away from funding as i type and that will add 20+ pounds of value to the Master Builder Pledge... you all surely know where i have gone haha ;-D


  


I seriously cant wait to get hold of these and paint them, the mix of textures between the four main races (And the Dinosaurs!) is a painters dream... The game is very good already and with plenty of external playtesting time remaining before final print is due it will be even better!


Time is ticking! Help me get my Dinosaurs!

The Walking Dead: All Out War

I have been tasked with painting up the models from The Walking Dead: All Out War box game, and will eventually have all the expansions and booster sets to do! I have completed the six survivor models so far:

Despite being one piece plastic models, these are easily some of the best models i've worked on so far; the detail is crisp and the models are characterful yet simple to paint up... I take my hat off to Mantic, these are great minis!

The Walkers in the box are twelve individual sculpts so im going to tackle them in two batches of six so should have another post on these a bit later in the week.

Age of Sigmar: Slaughter Priest & Khorgorath

I lied, my next unit is still wip but i have finished off a third Slaughter Priest that my friend gave me and also my second Khorgorath:





The Priest above is just a couple of small conversions on the very first one i painted, he looks different enough for me so im happy> I like how this dark Khorgorath scheme has come out, no mixing up units on the board now haha.

Age of Sigmar: Finishing of the Khorne Heroes

These two are the last of my Khorne Bloodbound Heroes (I have a few Daemon ones), there are a few other direct only variants on the Deathbringers but im in no rush for them at the moment:

The Mighty Lord is a solid beatstick character with a good command ability to speed up multiple units, and he can potentially one shot any model in the game with his axe of khorne being able to send a wounded model into the Realm of Chaos on a 5+ haha

This Slaughter Priest has a different weapon from my other one but is otherwise no different. I need at least two priests to run the Gore Pilgrims formation that will form the core of my force.

Its on now to either the Skullcrushers or a Korgorath next...

The Drowned Earth: Dinosaurs, Apes and Machine Guns!!!






Yesterday i was fortunate enough to get along to Salute and so was able to get a look at The Drowned Earth first hand before putting fingers to keys and creating this article. I have been chatting with James the creator via email for a few days in the run up to the show so was keen to meet up in person.


The guys had put together a great setup of three demos, with this mad T-Rex hunt as the centerpiece! The other two were traditional 2x2 foot demo boards with three models a side to show off the mechanics:






 I was able to gave a good chat with James about the game, the setting, the models and the mechanics that he hoped would set it apart from other low model count skirmish games.

In his own words, the world doesn't need another skirmish game that's exactly the same as all others, so to succeed and stand out it would need some interesting mechanics, great stand out models and have the depth and interplay that the larger systems are able to provide.

When i asked him before playing what it was close to he said superficially Infinity with its action/reaction play... but in this case those reactions will cost you action points from the model doing them so it doesn't just become a cover hugging exercise. There is also a strong rpg element with ability tests that have critical success or failures (The feat Mechanic).

After playing and reading the rules after, i can see a resource system like the Influence in Guildball   in play with the action points of models, some like leaders are able to move AP around the board to models up to a set cap to enable an important reaction or get someone to an objective they couldn't normally reach. This opens up a greater degree of tactical options and synergy between models that i personally find very important in games.  


Below are a series of photos from the demo board that i played on; The Firm and the Artifacters racing to take a piece of lost tech from the central objective on the gantry.




The beta rules can be downloaded from the website or kickstarter page, the game has been in development for two years now and is pretty close to being finished, nothing came up in my demo or reading the rules so far that didn't make sense, and the unlocked stat cards contain the info you need to run each model.

In fact the only tables you might have to refer to are the success/feat results that will become second nature after a game or two. The guys recommend a few games at 3 aside, ignoring points, to get a hang of the feat mechanic, before stepping up to 5 or more aside.




The feat mechanic is what sets this game apart really, every time you try to do something other than the basic walking or swimming such as climbing, jumping a gap or shooting, you roll two game dice (D10s); one is your ability test which you have to roll below, the other dice is your feat dice which if a '1' is rolled you can gain an extra AP, a success on this can open up increased speed, distance of shots, damage etc, but critical failures can lead to gun jams and falls from height!

Multiple feats can be combined into some very cinematic action with your model leaping across bridges and up walls to gun down an opponent all whilst dodging through a flurry of bullets haha, its great stuff.

As well as the demo models in use for games, a selection of grey primed minis and the studio painted display models of The Artifacters and The Firm were on show for people to check out. I think they are very characterful, full of animation  and the paint jobs were amazing too!






I think this game is going to be a success, its well though out, has an original take on the post apoc game setting, has great mechanics and essential interplay between faction models that some games lack. I'm backing this, and i know a few of my readers are already from seeing discussion on forums and facebook

Age of Sigmar: Moar Khorne Heroes!

Blood for the Blood God and all that!


Two more of the multitude of Khornate heroes are now completed:

Skullgrinder


Exalted Deathbringer




These two wont see as much table time as the other heroes as in the Skullgrinder's case, his buffs are harder to apply as he has to kill someone personally to provide bonuses to your force.

The Exalted is kind of a super solo in that he wants to be closeish to your general so he gains bonus attacks, but then in the mix killing people. He doesnt really provide much to the force outside of being a beatstick tho... but, put the mark of the destroyer on him and he can go windmilling through units for days haha.
